Hello I’m Paul. I’ve been in the accountancy business ever since leaving education and qualified as an ACCA accountant in 1999. Having worked at a firm of chartered accountants in North West London for many years and after then having obtained my practising certificate in 2002 I made the decision to go it alone and set up my own practice in April 2004. Over the years of being an Independent FCCA and Statutory Auditor I’ve learned that long term relationships are to be prized above all else. Most of my clients are the ones I first started with and over the years I’ve grown my services with their businesses and have become a part of their business ‘family’. I came to realise that I was never looking for new clients so much as new friends and partners.

Accounts Preparation

I can assist you with the preparation of your statutory accounts. This service will include the calculation of any tax that may be due and the filing of the accounts and any associated returns with Companies House and HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC). These accounts can also be used in conjunction with management accounts in order to identify any issues which may be affecting the performance of the company.

Audit

I will help you achieve greater business effectiveness as I do so much more for you than ensuring you are compliant with rules and regulations. My aim is to provide constructive help that will assist you in developing your business and give you total confidence in your accounting and business control systems. As a registered auditor I can carry out an audit of your financial statements to meet statutory requirements as well as carrying out a review of your systems to ensure the control systems you have in place are operating effectively.

Taxation

With careful planning, individuals and companies can make substantial savings in the amount of tax they pay. I can advise in all areas of tax; this might be anything from completing your Self Assessment to providing business and personal tax planning advice. This could include calculating tax payable on company cars and other benefits provided to employees. I can also ensure completion of VAT returns and Corporation Tax returns and give advice on Inheritance Tax and use of trusts and capital gains tax planning.

Over the years I have developed a broad and loyal client base which I now service from home in the Somerset-Devon borders. Whilst I work with a cross section of business, my main clientele is comprised of medium sized limited companies which are not entirely, but in the main, owner-managed. Owner involvement is a major factor in those that I work with, I spend my time making sure that hard-working people who have invested a lot into their business either personally or financially, feel that they are in a safe pair of hands with someone who cares about their business success.

Good working relationships don’t come about by chance. I’d like to think it’s because I’m good at what I do but really it’s about listening, taking time and ensuring that I invest myself in understanding my clients’ businesses and their real needs. Over time, working together builds confidence and strong working relationships which underpin good financial practice which, in turn, has a positive impact on their business. Some say that it’s about going the extra mile, I agree but really it’s about doing well what needs to be done and I take pride in that.

VAT

If you are VAT registered, your business will be required to submit VAT returns at regular intervals, usually on a quarterly basis. I can help to reduce the regulatory burden on you and your business by dealing with the initial VAT registration and submitting your VAT returns on line as required. This will allow you to concentrate on running your business.

There are also a number of special VAT schemes available and you will be advised as to whether any of these schemes will be appropriate to you and your business.

Payroll and Auto-enrolment

There’s not much more important to employees than receiving their pay! For business owners, maintaining the payroll can be a time consuming process, reducing the time they have available to spend on the development of their business.

Many businesses owners are also confused about their duties under auto enrolment and choose to concentrate on running their business rather than spending a large amount of time trying to sort out what they have to do. I can ease the burden of operating your payroll and allow you to spend more time focusing on what helps your business to flourish. All routine payroll processing can be dealt with and all necessary returns filed on line with HM Revenue & Customs.

Probate and Executorship

When someone dies it is an emotional and overwhelming time for the family. They may feel unable to deal with the legal and administrative issues that require due care and attention. As this is a stressful time, loved ones will often require help in dealing with all the necessary matters in an efficient and compassionate manner, and in accordance with the law. In these circumstances I am able to assist with the various aspects of the unreserved legal work at all stages of the Probate process including:

advising as to the information to be collated regarding the assets and liabilities of the deceased;
preparation of all tax returns and assisting with completing the Grant of Probate;
preparation of estate accounts;

The work involved in administering an estate will depend on the complexity of the case, the terms of the will and whether any inheritance tax is due.
I will always put you first and ensure that matters are resolved as quickly and efficiently as possible, keeping you advised at all times.
